Meet
New Kiwanis Member - Julie Beebe
by Rosemary Cummings
Julie Beebe lives in Milton,
DE with her husband, Dave, and two sons, Daniel and
Keith. Dave owns and operates B&B Evergreens, a tree farm that mainly grows Christmas trees and landscaping greens.
He is very involved with the Boy Scouts and Jefferson
Lodge in Lewes, DE. Daniel is 19, and attends the University
of Delaware on the SEEDS scholarship. Keith is a sophomore
at Sussex Tech and is about to get his learner's driving
permit (prayers are appreciated!). Julie was born at
the Chelsea Naval Hospital in Massachusetts, just outside
of Boston. Julie grew up in PG County Maryland, went
to school at Salisbury State University for her BS,
Delaware State for her Masters and Wilmington University
for Reading Specialist Certification. Julie has taught
in the Indian River School District for 24 years working
with primary elementary aged children. This year, the
School District gave her the opportunity to work with
three and four-year-old children with developmental
delays, through a new program she and her team are
developing call T.O.T.S. One of Julie's passions, right
behind her faith and family, is reading and literacy. She is one of two volunteers heading up the Imagination Library in Sussex
County. The Imagination Library is a non-profit organization
that sends one hardback book each month to local children
from birth to five, for free. She and Deanne Welsh
write grants and seek donations from local businesses
and community organizations to fund the project. The
purpose of the Imagination Library is to inspire a
love of reading in very young children, but also to
help improve literacy rates in children so that they
have a head start before they start school. Gov Riley
and LTG Kujala conducted an impressive induction of
new member, Julie Beebe at its 80th Anniversary. She
is delighted to be a member of Rehoboth Kiwanis Club,
looking forward to a long, happy association with all
of its members. She joined the Club in service before
her induction at Special Olympics and volunteers for
weekend projects. Welcome Julie!
