York Club Making a Difference

by Scott Zimmerman

Yesterday the small but mighty Kiwanis Club of York pulled out its beautiful Kiwanis Cargo Trailer full of Kiwanis signs "Serving the Children of the World" and all the items necessary to set up a mobile food vending site at the Yorktown Victory Monument. Members of the club and their families, young and old, worked hard to serve up food and drink to tourists and the many members of the community who had come to listen to The Virginia Symphony as they played beautiful music for all to listen to. As the stars began to shine and the moon began its slow rise from the horizon overlooking the York River and the Chesapeake Bay, Kiwanians cooked hamburgers and hot dogs and sold cold beverages, candy, and snacks to appreciating families. Later, with the moon at its zenith, The Virginia Symphony asked members of our Armed Services to stand while their branch's song was played. As "The Halls of Montezuma", "Anchors Aweigh", "The Caissons Go Rolling Along", and "Wild Blue Yonder" drew individual heros to stand and be recognized by an appreciative audience, the heros of Kiwanis gave out free drinks to the Boy Scouts who were there to clean up and give service to the community.

To top it all off, Kiwanis Club of York President, Adrienne Gonzalo, was highlighted in the Making a Difference section of The Daily Press this morning! Here is yet another reason why I am so proud to be a Kiwanian. Thank you all for everything that you do to make our world a better place.

When the world needs changing for the better, find a busy Kiwanian. To compound the change "invite a friend to join Kiwanis" One more head (two heads ARE better than one)...Two more hands... Two more smiles... Read about how one Kiwanian helps rebuild "Smiles" all around the world. Check out this article:
