New leaders step forward
The new president of Kiwanis International first saw the need for community service as a six-year-old in Honduras helping his mother provide maternal-neonatal tetanus immunizations. He belongs to clubs in Ohio and Montana; he's a Kentucky Colonel, and he collects PEZ.
Meet Alan Penn, elected 2011-12 president by the House of Delegates at the 96th annual convention in Geneva, Switzerland. "I'm committed to our mission of serving the children of the world," says Penn. "As well, I am devoted to our new global campaign for children, The Eliminate Project, and to growing Kiwanis worldwide."
The other newly-elected top international leader is a grant expert, a serious Sinatra fan and credits Kiwanis, of which he's been a member for 45 years, for finding him his spouse. Welcome new Kiwanis International president-elect, Thomas "Tom" E. DeJulio of the Fordham, Bronx, New York, club. Other leaders elected in Geneva include:

KI convention, approved amendments and resolutions

To resolve and amend
The House of Delegates had two proposed amendments to the Kiwanis International Bylaws on the agenda during the 96th annual Kiwanis International Convention in Geneva, Switzerland. Neither amendment was considered, due to a lack of a motion.
The amendments, both proposed by the Kiwanis Club of Blue Island, Illinois, were:
• To establish real-time online broadcasts of convention activities
• To establish real-time online voting during convention
The Kiwanis International Board did not support either amendment due to cost and logistical concerns, among others.

Kiwanis International and UNICEF will need more than vaccine and needles to stop maternal-neonatal tetanus from killing 160 babies every day. Information is a powerful weapon, and now you can arm your clubs in the fight with the latest on The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal-neonatal tetanus, through the refreshed tools at www.TheEliminateProject.org.
At the new website, you can give, sign up for e-mail updates and follow the project's progress on the blog and through Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube. You can also share your story and do your part with new fact sheets, presentations, handouts, videos and logos. Club toolkits contain ideas how to fundraise, plan projects and use public relations and social media to get the word out.
You'll also find slides and scripts and templates for everything from e-mail messages to talking points to social media mentions-so every member can speak with authority about this little-known but easily-preventable disease. There's even a special Campaign Resource Center for volunteer leaders to share materials. And all this is easy to find at the top-left of the home page under Resources.
