Wilmington Kiwanian Doubly Honored For 50 Years Of Civic Service

Wilmington, Delaware Mayor James M. Baker joined officials of Kiwanis International to honor L. Frank Hayes' 50 years of civic service.

Baker's proclamation paid tribute to Hayes' many accomplishments. During his long tenure he served in a variety of leadership roles including Wilmington Kiwanis President, Vice President, Chairman of Education, Attendance and Inter-Club Committees, and Vice Chairman of the Youth Services Committee. He also served on the Board of Directors and numerous other committees.

Hayes' community service extended outside of the Kiwanius Club of Wilmington, He was President and Director of the Delaware Hunane Association, School Board member of the City of Wilmington, Chairman of the Sussex Central YMCA, member of the Delaware Safety Council, and served Meals of Wheels for more than 20 years.

Hayes served five years of active duty with the U.S. Army Reserve and 15 years with the Delaware National Guard. He continued to show his support of the Armed Forces as Chairman of the Wilmington Kiwanis Armed Forces Day Luncheon for decades.

Nationally, Hayes received the Legion of Honor for 50 years of distinguished service from Kiwanis International CEO Rob Parker and President Paul Palazzolo. The award was presented at Forwood Manor, where Hayes is a temporary resident.
