Miracle League Baseball

by Marv Jackson Lt. Gov. Div. 17

If I were to tell you about an organized youth baseball league...you might call it ordinary.

If I were to tell you the athletes are physically challenged you might call it touching.

If I were to tell you to see them play you would call it a...MIRACLE!

Miracle League baseball, started in Conyers, GA. in 2000. It started with one field and since then it has spread to 45 states with 235 fields constructed or getting ready to start. The Miracle League has made it possible for over 185,000 children with physical and mental disabilities to achieve the same dream as their healthy peers...to play ball.

Through funding by sponsors and the commitment of volunteers, the Miracle League builds a specially equipped field for the players. A custom-designed field with cushioned synthetic turf, which allows children in wheelchairs, walkers or crutches to play without fear of injury.

Our goal is to build the first field in Maryland, across from the soccer complex off Schaeffer Road in Germantown. With your help we can achieve our goal. Join us. Support us with donations or as a volunteer. Our web site is www.miracleleaguemontcomd.com. Our e-mail address is mlmc09@comcast.net.
