Kiwanis Gets the "Dogs" Out

by David Landis

Pictured are members of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City "Dog Team" who sold refreshments at the August 20th Ocean Pines Department of Recreation and Parks weekly Concerts in the Park" at White Horse Park. Standing left to right are Mary Foleber, Jim Duke, Gloria Bassich, Charlie Warner, Mark Page (who captained this team), and President Corky Widerman. Seated is Pat Winklemayer, who just made it in time to cashier after working with other Kiwanians who volunteered at the Blood Bank of Delmarva blood drive during the afternoon at the Barrett Building in Berlin, so she's permitted to sit down.

Since the first concert on June 18th and until the last one on August 27th members volunteer in different teams to set-up, cook, sell and breakdown the tent, tables, grill and all the fixings for the sale of HOT DOGS, soft drinks and water, and chips. It's carted in weekly by the team so that sales can start by 6 PM as people start to arrive for the 7 PM concerts. All funds go to the club's Scholarship Foundation which annually awards scholarships to local deserving senior students to continue their education.

That's why Duck Race tickets are also available at the Hot Dog tent for the September 12th races at Frontier Town for $5 each or 3 for $10 to also support the scholarships. If you don't get Duck Race tickets at the concerts, contact Ron Graybill at 410-208-9208 or Ed Aurand at 410-208-0479 or ask any Kiwanis you may know to sell you some.
