Goodbye "Capital Builder" Hello "MiniBuilder"
by Dave Maloney, Editor

Recently the Capital District Board of Trustees voted to discontinue the printed version of the Capital Builder. This decision comes on the heels of a recent survey to which many club members responded with some excellent arguments both for and against doing away with the Capital Builder.

Now that the decision has been made to discontinue the printed Capital Builder, I am working on some alternatives to best serve those members who still prefer some sort of periodic communication from the District in a printed format. Gov. Tom suggested a periodic newsletter designed in a .pdf format with a maximum size of eight pages. I think this might be a workable alternative. This "MiniBuilder" would be primarily a low-fluff newsletter containing important administrative announcements and reminders, committee chair reports, recognition of individual outstanding service, DCON, Midwinter Conference, and KICON announcements, calendar of events, CKI and Key Club announcements, etc.

Administratively, the plan would be for me to prepare the MiniBuilder and email it to the clubs in a .pdf format. Clubs would print copies of the MiniBuilder for their members who would like the printed communication. All MiniBuilder articles will appear in the eBuilder so there really is no reason for online members to receive the MiniBuilder, but that would be the club's choice to make.

We intend on beginning the MiniBuilder with a Feb.1, 2009 issue and publish every other month after that. If the demand requires, at some point down the road we might ramp up to a monthly MiniBuilder. I welcome your input regarding this change.
