Grafton Kiwanian Paul Garman Receives Recognition from the Virginia House of Delegates

Delegate Brenda Pogge, representing Virginia House of Delegates District 96, has presented Paul Garman with a copy of House Resolution #55 commending him for his 2009 Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities and his extensive community service endeavors. Delegate Pogge made the presentation at the Kiwanis Club of Grafton's July 23, 2009 meeting. The text of the resolution follows:

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 55: Commending PAUL GARMAN

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 27, 2009

WHEREAS, Paul Garman of Yorktown is commended for receiving a 2009 Humanitarian Award for his outstanding community service from the Peninsula chapter of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, in association with the Hampton Roads Daily Press; and

WHEREAS, the Humanitarian Awards are given annually to community members who are committed to advancing interfaith and cross-cultural understanding; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pittsburgh, Paul Garman received a bachelor's degree from Shelton College in New Jersey and worked as a Kmart general manager before becoming self-employed as a real estate developer with Mid-Atlantic Commercial in Yorktown; and

WHEREAS, known for his administrative and leadership ability, Paul Garman has given generously of his time and talents to many organizations in order to better serve those in the community; and

WHEREAS, Paul Garman currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for Mary Immaculate Hospital, the Housing Development Corporation of Hampton Roads, the York County Chamber of Commerce, and the Boys and Girls Club of York County; and

WHEREAS, Paul Garman also serves as a member of the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors and chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association; and member of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, Paul Garman lives his faith through his works and as a member of First Baptist Church Newport News, where he serves as a substitute Sunday School teacher; and

WHEREAS, Paul Garman, who has selflessly served his community for many years, serves as a model for his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Paul Garman hereby be commended for receiving a 2009 Humanitarian Award from the Peninsula chapter of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, in association with the Hampton Roads Daily Press; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paul Garman as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration and gratitude for his hard work and involvement in the community.
