Kiwanis Supports Berlin Intermediate School Builders Club

Some of the young Kiwanians who belong to the B.I.S. Builders Club, a Kiwanis International club for students in grades above the elementary school level, attended the February 23rd Kiwanis Club meeting in the Ocean Pines Community Center with their club advisor, Jane Slotter, who told the members of the parent Kiwanis Club about some of their projects. The parent club presented $500 to support the B.I.S. Builders Club. Pictured (L to R) are Advisor, Jane Slotter as she tells Kiwanians about the projects, Builders Club President Macy Petersen, Secretary Matt Sobol, Treasurer Eric Rimel, and Treasurer Alec Foote as they display some of their projects.

Macy is holding up a red "Christmas Angel" ornament which club members made for patients and staff at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. Matt is holding up a doll which the club provides to young patients at AGH to allow them to see the location on the doll the depicting where they will have a procedure. Eric and Alec are holding a "Blanket of Honor" which the club makes and presents to returning wounded veterans. The kids of today in action learning to serve their community. Makes one proud and confident about the future.

Commissioner Boggs presented information on State and County issues effecting her constituency. She will also address these issues at her Town Hall Meeting on Saturday February 26th at 10 AM in the Ocean Pines Library.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast Successful Combined Effort

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City had a successful annual winter Pancake Breakfast due to the nice turn out of customers and the combined efforts of the club's members, students from the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club, and the local Boy Scout Troop.

Pictured are Kiwanis members (L to R back row) Charlie Warner, Jerry Powell who chaired the event, Ed Aurand and Ron Graybill. (L to R front row) SDHS Key Club members Rachel Mulholland, Amber Robinson, Kelly Marx, Miranda Oliver, and Christine Timko.

Two Key Clubbers, (L to R front Jenna Abbaticchio and Ali McLoota wanted to learn how to flip the flapjacks so they worked in the kitchen on the grill under the supervision of Kiwanian "flippers" (L to R rear) Bud Breidenstein and Ralph Chinn.

Kiwanis Supports Decatur Key Club

Stephen Decatur High School has a very active Key Club which is the high school club of Kiwanis International. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City is the parent and sponsoring club of the SDHS Key Club and supports their efforts.

Pictured (L to R) are Key Club Editor Rachel Thompson, Key Club President Taylor Tobak, Key Club Advisor and teacher at SDHS Anna DiGiulian and Kiwanis President Roy Foreman as a check for $500 is presented to the Key Club. From March 19th to the 21st, members of the Key Club will attend their Capital District Convention. These funds will help to support those who attend to learn how to enhance their club and better serve their community.

SDHS Key Club often donates their time and efforts to the parent club's events such as the three annual Pancake Breakfasts, the annual German and Italian Dinners, and ringing the bell at Christmas time for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, to name a few. Key Club holds its own events and fundraisers like their annual Spring Blood Drive at the high school for which they have earned top awards and recognition for past drives. Watch the local papers for further details allowing the public to lend support to the SDHS Key Club. For more information, contact decatur.keyclub@gmail.com.

Kiwanis Hears About AGH Community Education

Pictured is Atlantic General Hospital's Community Education Coordinator, Dawn Denton, who was the guest speaker at the weekly Kiwanis meeting on February 9th at the Ocean Pines Community Center, as she is thanked by the Kiwanis President, Roy Foreman, while Speakers Chairman Graham Caldwell observes on the right. Dawn, in addition to being the coordinator, is a nurse and informed the club about the many programs AGH offers to the community, including helping with health fairs, providing screenings like blood pressure and bone density, and many weekly and monthly meetings and events about health issues. AGH also has a Speakers Bureau available to organizations and the community. The information she provided was interesting and most helpful. Dawn can be contacted at 410-641-9268 or at ddenton@atlanticgeneral.org. As she told the group, one's health care and planning is becoming more and more the responsibility of that individual rather than that of their health care provider. Becoming informed is essential.
