Smithfield
Club has Breakfast with Santa
by Karen Foster
The chill in the air was
just enough to put everyone in the holiday spirit for
the Kiwanis Club of Smithfield's Breakfast with Santa.
As the prelude to Smithfield's Christmas Parade, this
annual fundraising event is always brimming with Kiwanians
serving up all the breakfast favorites and plenty of
guests to enjoy them. According to project chair, Sue
Ivy, the Club served about 550 people at breakfast
this year. Sue says, "it was a wonderful day and absolutely everyone had a great experience. There
was plenty of seating, plenty of food and good cheer." And, of course, Santa was there to hear the Christmas wishes of Smithfield's
young and young at heart. Along with a little hard
work, the Kiwanians working the event had an enjoyable
time. Much laughter and merry making could be heard
above the clanging of dishes in the kitchen. The Smithfield
High School Key Club joined us once again this year
with members assisting as Santa's Elves.
All the leftover food was donated to the homeless shelter
in Smithfield. That means this year's breakfast had
a double impact on the community. Not only did the
club raise funds to support projects that benefit children
in the community, but also supported the homeless in
the community. For more information or to view additional
pictures from this and other events, visit the Kiwanis
Club of Smithfield's website at SmithfieldKiwanis.org.
