Kiwanis Club of Frederick

Kathy Afzali, right, Republican candidate for Delegate of Maryland District 4A, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Mrs. Afzali gave a brief history of her career to date and then outlined for the club her reasons for running and the objectives that she hopes to achieve if elected. She discussed many areas of state government and answered questions from club members on actions and changes she would like to see happen. Club member Roz Nasher is with the speaker.


Service Coordination, Inc., a former division of The Arc of Frederick County, was the topic of a talk given to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick by Service Coordinators Micky Procter and Terri Taylor. Ms Procter spoke about the private nonprofit organization in their work of helping people with developmental disabilities attain their goals. She gave a brief history of the organization, how services are provided out of 14 offices and 12 counties in the central, western and southern regions of Maryland, and how the more than 700 individuals are being served in Frederick County. She also outlined the procedures for determining how applicants are reviewed for eligibility. Pictured, left to right, are Terri Taylor, Kiwanian Roz Nasher, and Micky Procter.


Frederick Kiwanian Carla Palamone, left, was a recent speaker to her club and spoke to the group on her recent experience with Lyme Disease. She talked about the effects of the disease, treatment, tests, and medicines that she had to endure while being treated. Miss Palamone also spoke about the headaches, joint pain, and fever that she experience, and from the emotional standpoint of not knowing what the disease was doing to her. The procedures required almost a full year to bring the disease under control. Kiwanian Roz Nasher is with the speaker.


Tim May, of The Templar Corporation, which includes Tim May Investigative and May Security, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Mr. May, a candidate for Register of Wills for Frederick County, spoke to the club about his past experiences as a judge and offered several examples of cases he had heard during that time. He also spoke about the duties of a Personal Representative in administering an estate and how estates should be handled.
