Coastal Delaware Kiwanis Club on hand for Special Olympics

by Rosemary Cummings

Coastal Delaware Kiwanis Club members were on hand for the 20th year of the Special Olympics Families at the Beach at Cape Henlopen State Park. Kiwanis partnered with other local service organizations to assist Special Olympics. Team work was evident as Kiwanians worked alongside members from Lions, Anglers, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and a nearby Church group preparing bag lunches for the guests and their families. The men had a great time as they vied for best cook of hamburgers and hot dogs. When the anglers returned from fishing they lined up for their bag of goodies and some even had seconds. After lunch they announced the winners of First fish caught: Beth Fuhs at 10:01 a.m. Most fish caught: Deborah McDaniel (8) Largest fish caught: Elizabeth Avelleyra (14-inch flounder). Coordinators Janie Miller and Brenda Zullo presented trophies to the winners. After the presentation, Special Olympics members and their families took a ride on the nearby Cape May-Lewes ferry.
