by David Landis

(Above) Kiwanis Welcomes Two New Members. The lifeblood of any organization is its members and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City is happy to welcome its two newest members, Lura and Bob Wright, who were inducted at the January 27th weekly meeting in the Ocean Pines Community Center. Pictured (R to L) are Kiwanis VP Roy Foreman, Bob Wright, Lura Wright, Graham "Jack" Caldwell who sponsored the Wrights, and Membership Chair, Pat Winkelmayer who performed the ceremony. The Wrights moved to Ocean Pines in 2005 from Frederick, Maryland. They also had previously lived in Washington, D.C.and Rockville, Maryland prior to Frederick. Bob has his own home repair business in the Pines and both he and Lura are looking forward to "Serving the Children of the World", which is the mission of Kiwanis International, as well as serving their community as members of the club.

(Above) Kiwanis Hears From OC Mayor. Weekly Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City meetings feature a guest speaker. Ocean City Mayor, Rick Meehan, spoke at the January 27th meeting about his favorite subject, the City of Ocean City to the delight of his audience. Pictured is Mayor Meehan as he spoke to the membership while to his left Kiwanis VP, Roy Foreman, and Kiwanis Speaker Chairman, Graham "Jack " Caldwell, look on. Mayor Meehan updated the club about the upcoming Beach Replenishment Project to start this spring and explained how vital it is to the survival and productivity of our resort town. The status and scope of the expansion of the Convention Center and the positive impact it will have for Ocean City and its residents and visitors was most interesting. Mayor Meehan also talked about the ongoing successful advertising campaign promoting Ocean City as a great destination choice for vacationers. He stressed that safety and cleanliness are two necessities for visitors to OC, both of which get high grades for the resort which is great news, especially in this time of budget crunches.
