Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis K-Kids News

by Rosemary Cummings

Rehoboth Beach ES K-Kids entered their top three Art contest winners in the Capital District K-Kids Art contest. The K-Kids Club received a Certificate of Appreciation which Kiwanis Advisors Margie Spaulding and Rosemary Cummings presented to the Faculty Advisor Kim Kneipp. Megha Patel's work received second place, and Nikki Patel and Gerri Flowers each received honorable mention.

Rehoboth Boys and Girls Club K-Kids planned a garden on the ground of the meeting site, Epworth Methodist Church. Kiwanian Joe Brake tilled the area and the K-Kids along with Faculty Advisor Ms Stephanie and Kiwanian Ms. Cummings began the initial planting with radishes, watermelons, sunflowers, a mystery bean Builders Club Shakira brought from school, nasturtiums and cucumbers. The BGC K-Kids will work on their garden two days a week during the summer with local Key Club and Builders Club members assisting. When the Church heard about the K-Kids gardening, they invited the K-Kids to help with weeding the church grounds. Rehoboth BGC K-Kid Erika Lewis and Builders Club Colt Daniels worked at Alex's Lemonade stand with the K-Kids from Rehoboth School.

Lord Baltimore - Oceanview K-Kids worked on their school garden with members of the local garden club GBTS. Ms. Wood gave a program on environmental safe native species and Ms. Schafer introduced the K-Kids to the world of herbs. After each program the K-Kids went outdoors to care for the Environmental Gardens planted around their school. At their final meeting of the school year, the K-Kids feted Ms. Rosalyn Fradel. Ms. Fradel was the Faculty Advisor for five years working with the K-Kids teaching them to make quilts, read stories about quilting, and recently assisting with the "Kiwanis Dolls for Sick Children" project. Ms. Fradel introduced the two new Advisors for next year, Ms. Ward and Ms. Orthlein. They finished business with ice cream cake for everyone.
