Hello from your CKI Club

by Ryan White

For those of you who don't know, CKI (Circle K International) is a collegiate service organization, sponsored by Kiwanis, that supports the development of college students through three tenets: Service, Leadership, and Fellow¬ship. The VCU chapter, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Richmond, meets every Wednesday night during the school year at 7:00 p.m. in the University student commons. We would love to have some of you come and visit our club next year and join in with us on the many projects that we participate in.

The CKI Club at Virginia Commonwealth University had its most successful year to date this past year. With over 50 members we completed over 1,000 total service hours, working with various organizations such as the SPCA, Churchill Activities and Tutoring, Children's Museum of Richmond, and several other organizations. The club has also managed to raise almost $200 for the UNICEF Six Cents Initiative, which provides oral rehydration packets to those in need in third world countries. Not only was the club successful within VCU, but within the District as well. This past year the club was home to the District Governor and at District Convention took home six awards. This com¬ing year the club will be home to the Lieutenant Governor for the Division and will also be sending a candidate for In¬ternational President to the International Convention.

On behalf of the entire club I would like to thank all of you for the support you give to our club. Without Ki¬wanis support, many of us would not be the people we are today. The opportunities that we are given every day to change our communities and develop our leadership skills are priceless and not something that can be learned in the classroom. Again I would like to thank all of you for your support, and I hope to see you at a CKI meeting next year.
