Fighting to Save Children in Africa
by Raga S. Elim, Ph.D., Chairman, Capital District Committee on International Understanding

Thank you once again for your donations to the Initiative for Africa. Our total has reached $11,311. We still have some distance to go, but we are counting on your continued support and are optimistic that we will reach our goal of $30,000. Some donors have arranged matching funds from their employers. If your employer is equally generous, we ask you to take advantage of this arrangement.

I also would like to report that our competition for projects on international understanding among CKI clubs throughout the District is progressing very satisfactorily. We have received a number of quality proposals, and awards for winning projects will be announced at the CKI District Convention on March 28, 2009.

Cash awards totaling $2500 will be awarded: $500 each to the best 4 proposals and $100 each to another 5 proposals. These awards are made possible by the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation. We thank the Board of Trustees of the District foundation for making this worthy competition possible.
