Front Royal Club Names Terry Leckie as Kiwanian of the Year
by Mary Ellen South

If you've been to the Kiwanis Annual Pancake Day held the first Saturday in December, you've no doubt seen Terry Leckie (pictured with Gov. Tom Ganse) running around checking everyone's assignment and filling in where needed. That's a good example of Terry as a Kiwanian. He has been a member of the Front Royal Club for over 12 years. He has served the club as past-President, and has been Treasurer of the club for the past six years.

In this capacity, he has done a superb job of managing accounts, keeping the Club on its budget and helping each year's new team of officers to formulate a new budget.

It was, in fact, at Terry's suggestion that the Kiwanis Club of Front Royal sponsored the Winchester Kiwanis Club of Old Town.

As the outstanding Fund Raising Chairman, Terry has organized and directed chief money-making activities: the 5K Race (the last eight years), Kiwanis Fair Grounds Bingo (the last 4 years) and Kiwanis Pancake Day (previous 8 years). In addition, he has organized the effort for Salvation Army bell ringing (normally, Kiwanis is the leading service club fund raiser), regularly takes pictures of club activities and meetings, conducts the weekly 50/50 raffle, and collects at the door for special Kiwanis functions. He is to be found at all Kiwanis activities, such as trash pick-ups, blood drives and the Special Love breakfast.

In presenting Terry with its Kiwanian of the Year Award, the Board and the membership of the Front Royal Club considered that, in serving our community, no other Kiwanian had demonstrated the dedication, constancy, and abilities of Terry Leckie. These words were echoed by Tom Ganse, District Governor who presented Terry the 2009 award for District 19. This is a repeat performance for the Front Royal Club- last year's winner was Michael Laing.
