Capital District Kiwanis Foundation Updates
by Joe Maranto, President, Capital District Foundation

As we approach the mid- point of our Kiwanis year, I thought I would use this medium to remind each of our clubs of the advantages and importance of offering Capital District Life Memberships to noteworthy Kiwanians.

As you know, Life Memberships are available to any Kiwanian. For $100.00 a Life Membership can be sponsored by a Kiwanian, a Kiwanis Club, or a Kiwanian's spouse or friend. What better way can a club honor a past officer or committee chair for their past performances or honor any outstanding member of your club who has achieved excellence.

Last week, during the CDKF meeting, the Ducky Derby Adoption Certificates were given to each Trustee to be distributed to all clubs in the Capital District. These certificates were given out early in order that they may be sold immediately following your various regional conferences.

The Ducky Derby race will take place at our District Convention in Dover, Delaware on Saturday, August 20, 2009. As you know, this is our big fund raiser of the year. Therefore, I encourage each of you to sell as many tickets as possible. Our goal is to exceed last year's results by 25%.

The Teenager of the Year Program is currently under way. This program honors an outstanding student, not only for good grades, but also for his or her involvement in the community and school as well as the willingness to give to others. You are encouraged to make your recommendations as soon as possible.

Finally, remember to support memberships in the Capital District Foundation- Founders Society. This gift of $1000.00 will support our Sponsored Youth Programs. As you know, the need to subsidize these programs is critical to their continued success.
