In this way the club is continuing an 88-year tradition that began with the chartering of the West Point Kiwanis Club in 1921. This year's officers are the latest in a long line of public-spirited citizens that has included many past mayors, town council members, school board members and elected officials, all of whom have contributed their time to the Kiwanis Club and to the greater West Point community. On hand to conduct this year's induction ceremony was Kiwanis District Lieutenant Governor Tom Wagstaff, accompanied by Key Club administrator Joe Stankus. Additionally, the Club is planning a short tour of Costa Rico to see how that country is preserving its unique habitat and how the three Kiwanis Clubs in San Jose contribute to their local community. (Above) On Monday, October 26th, 12 kids from the Sacramento Neighborhood Center (SNC) went to Cox Farm in Chantilly for a fun and exciting time. The kids were able to enjoy the different slide rides, did rope swinging, watched, petted, and fed the farm animals, and went on a hay ride. They enjoyed fresh apple cider and apples, and, at the end, they were all able to pick a pumpkin to take home. They met and were able to take a picture with the owners of the farm. The kids were amazed at how big the property was and all that there was to do. Being able to pet the animals and feed them, being so close to the animals and seeing such large cows and pigs fascinated the kids to no end. Many of them said that they did not want the day to end because they were having so much fun. The main question asked was, "when are we coming back here?" Mr. Fernando Bowen of the SNC staff led and supervised this field trip, and Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club paid for all the entrance fees.
