Northern Neck Club Boat Auction

by Maryjane Chewing

The Northern Neck Kiwanis Club, based in Kilmarnock Va, will hold their annual boat auction on May 8, 2010 at Yankee Point Sailboat Marina, 1303 Oak Hill Road, Lancaster, VA. Each year all types of boats are donated from people around the area for our annual spring fundraiser. We usually receive 30-40 boats that are auctioned off on site, although several have also been sold on Ebay prior to the day of the auction. These boats range from canoes, paddle boats, classics, sailboats, and power boats-anything nautical. Sizes have ranged from a 6' row boat to a trawler over 30' in length. As an added bonus we are also offering a signed, numbered, and remarqued artist proof by John Barber titled, "Winter's Eve on the Northern Neck." There is something for everyone.

The day begins around 8 a.m. with an amazing array of nautical items for sale along our flea market tables. Besides our own, additional tables are set up by vendors, at $10 a spot, to sell their own nautical wares. The local Key Club members begin by selling coffee and donuts, switching to hot dogs and soft drinks as the day progresses.

Then around 10 a. m. the official boat auction begins. Anyone paying $1 for a bidding number is eligible to bid. Successful bidders have the responsibility to pay for and to remove their newly acquired items that day or making arrangements with the marina to store them for later pick up.

There are no warranties or guarantees implied or otherwise, but you have the satisfaction of knowing that 100% of the sale proceeds go to local charities and youth organizations. Contact M. J. at 804-438-5667 for further information.
