Kiwanis Club of Frederick

Maryland State Police Sgt. Rob Embly, Barracks B, Frederick, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick.  Sgt. Embly spoke to the club about today's economy and how it has affected the budget for the State Police.  He highlighted the effects in the public safety area on vehicles: how the vehicles now are being operated with more mileage; manpower: the number of officers now patrolling the state highways; training: reduction in training sessions for officers; and equipment: the need to upgrade radio systems.  Sgt. Embly also spoke about the compensation of the troopers and how it has affected them.  Kiwanis President Roz Nasher is with the speaker.


Rabbi Singerman, Beth Sholom, Frederick, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick.  Rabbi Singerman spoke to the club about the historical holiday "Hanukkah" and provided a history of the Jewish people in obtaining religious freedom.  He also spoke about the candles on the menorah and the signifiance of the candles.  Frederick Kwanis Club President Roz Nasher is with the Rabbi.


"Operation Christmas Child", sponsored by the Strong Tower Christian Church, was the recipient of a $500 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Frederick, to be used at the program scheduled for December 11, at the Bill Talley Recreation Center on Bentz and W. Second Sts. The program provides gift boxes of toys, learning tools, toiletries for children, infant to 10 years of age. The children also receive a free meal, games, a local church dance team, and a visit from Santa along with a large Christmas tree and the Christmas Story. Dr. Gregory Gagnon, right, Radiation Oncologist, Medical Director, FMH CyberKnife Center, and Janet Russo, left, CyberKnife Coordinator at FMH CyberKnife Center, were recent guest speakers to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Dr. Gagnon spoke to the club about radio surgery and offered a power point presentation on various treatment areas in the human body that can be treated with the CyberKnife procedure. He talked about the different types of radiation and how the CyberKnife performs in delivering radiation to these areas. In attendance with the Kiwanians for the presentation were residents and staff members of Homewood. Kiwanis President Roz Nasher is shown with the guests. Several members from the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick were also present  for Dr. Gagnon's talk.
