Dover Kiwanis Club President Neill McLean (pictured left) recently delivered 235 cans of cranberry sauce donated by Club members to Dover Salvation Army secretary/project coordinator Brenda Willson (right) for the charitable organization's annual Christmas Food Baskets for needy families in the area.  Kiwanis is a community service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world.  New members are always welcome and interested persons may contact Shawn Ryan at (302) 653-4762 or Neill McLean at (302) 678-5725

The North-Central Richmond Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a performance of "The Fiddler's House," at the Chamberlayne Actors Theatre on Saturday, February 5th. This event is a fundraiser for our club and all Kiwanians and their friends are cordially invited to help us fill the house. Tickets can be purchased for $18.00 from club president Jim Brashler (jbrashler@upsem.edu) or Joe Stanku(stanitec@verizon.net).

The North-Central Richmond Kiwanis club serenaded the residents of Manor Care Convalescent Unit of Imperial Plaza with Christmas carols and other seasonal songs on Saturday, December 18th. Led by Andre Basmajian and augmented by members of the Varina High School Key club and other friends, the Kiwanians made a joyful noise that brought smiles to the faces of the residents. Santa Claus (aka Joe Stankus) even made an appearance when we sang "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

The Reisterstown Club had a Peanut Day where they gave away bags of peanuts in front of the Reisterstown Giant Store and collected contributions for the Reisterstown Crisis Center.  In the photo Deborah Goff Executive Director receives a check for $1,200.00 from Gary Beck.

Key Club members from Bruton High School and Williamsburg Christian Academy assisted 75 club members and spouses of the Kiwanis Club of the Colonial Capital in their annual distribution of toys at the local Wal Mart.  Toys were distributed to 535 children.

The Virginia Beach-Combers recently enjoyed a visit to The Military Aviation Museum, located at the Virginia Beach Airport, home to one of the largest private collections of  vintage fighters, bombers, trainers, and seaplanes from WWI, WWII, and the Korean war. The aircraft have been beautifully restored to their former glory, and are frequently used for flight demonstration, static display, movie production, and commercials. The display, housed in a 60,000 sq. ft. twin hanger, includes a large collection from all branches of the U.S.forces, as well as some from the RAF, Russia, France, Germany, and Japan..Our tour was conducted by a pilot from WWII, who provided interesting commentary.

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club, along with members of the Northern Virginia Community College CKI Club, participated in the Town of Dumfries 36th Annual Holiday Parade.  There were 86 entries entered in the parade.  The Club's entry, was a decorated pickup truck, which had a large sign mounted in the bed that highlighted the community organizations that the Club sponsors in the area.  The Club passed out Kiwanis peanuts and candy to the many kids, and some parents, that lined the long parade route.   The weather was nice and everyone, including members of the Kiwanis Club, had a very good time.

Coastal Delaware Piglet Award
. Continuing the tradition for his year, Coastal Delaware Kiwanis President Jim Kunkle gave the Piglet Award for December to Kiwanian Margaret Spaulding.  (Remember the difference between Eggs and Bacon, between the Chickens giving and the Pig commitment.)  Margie is a truly committed Kiwanian working weekly with the Rehoboth K-Kids, volunteering at Food Drives and community service events such as Beach Grass planting, Main Street Tree Trimming and Parade of Trees, and baking cupcakes for the K-Kids bake sale.  This year Margie was understudy to George Blacklock, as she assisted with the lighting for the Rehoboth Creche.   Margie is the mother of five and a grandmother, who often brings one or more of her grandchildren with her to learn service first-hand.
