Hearts Apart Families Receiving Free Christmas Trees From Mount Vernon Kiwanis

by Paul Mehler

The Hearts Apart are a group of military wives whose husbands are deployed to Afghanistan. It is a group of about 20 who meet once a month as a social gathering at Ft Belvoir. Their children are taken care of at the meeting by caregivers, and they are all fed a delicious dinner. Hearts Apart is sponsored by the Army Community Service at   Ft Belvoir. Several other organizations provide gifts and funds to Hearts Apart annually. This year, the Christmas Trees are being donated and delivered to the Hearts Apart group by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club as part of their annual Christmas Tree Sale. The Trees were provided by the Powers Tree Farm located in Southwest VA. They grow only Fraser Fir trees which are considered the highest quality and have become very popular with the public in recent years.
