Kiwanis Celebrates Christmas
In celebration of the Holiday Season members and spouses and guests of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City took time out to celebrate with one another. Leading the Christmas caroling after the dinner at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club on December 15th is Dick Jacobs pictured standing in front of the group. Kiwanis thanks everyone for their support and wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!
Kiwanis Supports Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive
Pictured is Kiwanian John Smith of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City manning the Red Kettle at the Wal-Mart on Rt. 50 as the snow came down on Thursday December 16th. As in past years, Kiwanis, the SDHS Key Club, which is Kiwanis at the high school level, and members of Cub Scout Troop 480 of Ocean Pines have manned the kettle at the Wal-Mart in support of the Salvation Army's Holiday Drive. At the start of the 2010 campaign. the local Kiwanis Club was awarded the first place Bell Ringer Award in the club or organization category for collecting over $8000 during the 2009 campaign.
Kiwanis Holiday Treats for Meals on Wheels
Pictured are Barb Peletier, 2009-2010 Kiwanian of the Year, and her husband Dan, who is the immediate past president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City loading holiday gift packages of bread, cookies and candy for the Northern Worcester County Maryland Berlin Senior Center to distribute to the Meals on Wheels recipients for Christmas. Barb and Dan made and packaged the goodies and presented them on behalf of the Kiwanis Club, as they have done the past several years. Until October of 2010, Kiwanis members were volunteers assisting in packaging and distributing the meals 4 days each week. Wishing every one "Happy Holidays"!
Bob Thompson Speaks to Kiwanis Club
Ocean Pines General Manager Bob Thompson was the guest speaker at the Wednesday December 8th weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City where he spoke about the new Java Cafe at the Yacht Club, the new leaf collection program, the golf outsourcing and other programs. Pictured (L to R) are Kiwanis Club President Roy Foreman, Bob Thompson, and J. Graham Caldwell, Programs and Speakers Chairman for the club, who arranges for the weekly guest speakers.
Kiwanis Helps The Claus
The Ocean Pines Department of Parks and Recreation held its annual "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday December 4th at the OP Community Center. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City volunteers for kitchen duty were there, as they have been for many years, to lend their expertise in preparing the pancake and sausage breakfast and arranging for Santa and Mrs. Claus to attend. Kiwanian Al Kastner and his wife Carol were "instrumental" in arranging for the Clauses to visit and take pictures with the excited children.
Kiwanis and Blood Bank of Delmarva
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City has a long history with the Blood Bank of Delmarva as Kiwanians volunteer to man the refreshment casino at the blood drives held in Ocean Pines for many years under the direction of Kiwanian Joe Bagdon who has served as the club's blood bank chairman for most of that time. Additionally, this last academic year of 2009-2010, the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club, which is the high school club of Kiwanis International, was named the outstanding blood drive organization among the 12 high schools that sponsor blood drives for the Blood Bank in Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset counties.
Pictured is Blood Bank of Delmarva Account Executive Suzanne Murray being thanked by Kiwanis President, Roy Foreman, for being the speaker at the December 1st weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club in Ocean Pines. Suzanne said that starting at age 17, and up to any age, persons can make blood donations which go a long way to saving lives. The next blood drive will be in Ocean City at the Convention Center on February 8 from 10 - 6 PM and February 9 from 9 - 5 PM. The next Ocean Pines drive will be in March at the Ocean Pines Library.
