Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Club

by Frank Persinger Sr., Sec.

The Alleghany Highlands Club with 46 members strong will has just had another successful Pancake Breakfast. With 34 members and 35 members of the Alleghany High School, which has 160 members, served over 500 plates of Pancakes, Buttermilk and Old Fashioned Buck Wheat, Sausage, and Biscuits with sausage gravy along with milk, coffee and OJ.

This annual fund raiser for the club raises money for the Scholarships given to two High Schools in the area, and this year raised another $300.00 for the daughter of last year's President Amy Vess Crizer who is fighting Leukemia at Duke University.

What a surprise this year to see Division 5's Lt. Gov. Kathy Johnson was also there and pitching in to help, thanks Kathy.

Again this year our Club is going to have another Fund Raiser with the Jackson River Poker Paddle River Run on June 27th. Last years it was such a success that the community has been asking when will we do it again. The Club had a great time and would like to see you there, Write or call for information to Tom Gross 540-962-3217. Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 902, Covington, Va. 24426.
