Dover Kiwanis Charters 4th Key Club

by Dorothy Doyle, Dover Kiwanis Club member

On March 3, 2010, the Dover Kiwanis Club participated in the official chartering ceremony for the new Smyrna High School Key Club - the fourth Key Club sponsored by Dover. Smyrna is located about 10 miles north of Dover.

The Smyrna High School Key Club charter night started off with dinner being served in the school's cafeteria and was attended by members from the Dover Kiwanis Club, Millsboro Kiwanis Club, Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club, Delaware State University - Circle K, and Sussex Technical High School Key Club. All enjoyed a very nice meal and had the opportunity to socialize with most of the 32 members in the newly chartered Smyrna High School Key Club.

Following dinner, attendees had the pleasure of listening to motivating words from Kent County Superior Court Resident Judge William L. Witham Jr., who happens to be a member of the Dover Kiwanis Club. He gave a wonderful speech about leadership, community service, and character.

Capital District Governor Don Dudey officiated the Charter Presentation ceremony and Division 11-A Key Club Lt. Governor Michelle Haney administered the oaths of office to the charter officers including President Rosie Mujica, Vice-President Emiley Conboy, Secretary Kailyn Asbury, Treasurer Jasmine Montgomery, and Historians Eric Morris and Brittany Shoun. The Club advisor is Smyrna High School history teacher Scott Cole, who is also a member of the Dover Kiwanis Club.

Other speakers that night were Divisions 11A & 15 Key Club Zone Administrator Millie Edgar, and Division 11 Kiwanis Lt. Governor Rosemary Cummings.
