Mount Vernon Club Distributes Free Books To The Pre-Kinder Children Of The Gum Springs Head Start Program

On April 23, three members of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club (MVKC) distributed and signed the children’s names into the books that the MVKC had bought for them. About 170 pre-kinder children benefit from this program three times a year. Assisting the Gum Springs Head Start Center’s Early Childhood Education Administrator, Maxine Maloney, and its Education Manager, Agneatha Wright, this time were MVKC President Bruce Malkin, Book Distribution Program Manager Lisa Caputo, and Member Barbara Callahan. This event for the 3-5 year olds took place at the Gum Springs Head Start Center located at the end of Fordson Road. The next day, Bruce, Maxine, and Agneatha repeated the effort with the 0-3 year olds at the other Head Start Center in the Gum Springs Glen building on Richmond Highway. Bruce took the photos that accompany this article and represent the two day event.
