Gar-Field Key Club: Lose The Shoes

by Maha Zaidi

Since last year, Gar-Field High School has been conducting a student exchange program with Ridings High School based in England.  This year, GFHS Key Club intends to engage in a service project with them. During District Convention 2009, the club members learned of a beneficial program called Grassroot Soccer.  Grassroot Soccer helps teach African adolescents with “ the knowledge, life skills, and support to live HIV-free.”  Gar-Field Key Club is planning on having a countywide Lose the Shoes soccer tournament. Lose the Shoes is “an awareness and fundraising campaign that gives American students the opportunity to learn more about the global HIV/AIDS epidemic and empowers them to get personally involved in the solution.” Mainly, three people on a team play soccer for a very low price and compete against other teams. The date being aimed for is May 30, 2009 at Gar-Field High School. We would like to make this a big turnout for a good cause. Your participation is a must to make this a successful event. There will be food, music, prizes, and other games beside soccer, not to mention the opportunity to meet new people, especially our guests from England.  Please contact Maha Zaidi on mahaz500@hotmail for participation details and any queries.
